Sounds like a workable compromise.

…n out of a molehill, but I imagine other writers and editors on the platform can resonate, as well. A good middle ground would be giving each Medium user the option to enable or disable e-mail notifications for private notes, much like there’s the option to enable or disable private notes, to begin with.
