Obsidian or TANA
Which is better?
I’ve been playing with TANA for the last few months. I’m loving it.
But which is better?
Tana offers features that Obsidian doesn't, but the opposite is also true. But as I pointed out in How to Choose PKM Software, picking a Personal Knowledge Management system is about much more than features.
Thus, I cannot abandon Obsidian for many reasons, including:
- Local First
- Awesome mobile app
- Publish capabilities
- Markdown files
- Back up files that make sense to a non-techie
- Vibrant and helpful online community
- Responsive developers who listen to their community
That’s not to say that Tana doesn’t have many of those features, and with new features being added regularly, it may soon catch up. But here and now, it’s the combination of those features that keeps me with Obsidian for critical information.
Tana, however, is still in the “early access” and ALPHA development stage. Their development team is top-notch and highly engaged with the community. New releases are frequent (as would be expected at this stage), well thought out, and well-tested. And with each new release, I become compelled to spend more…
