I don't think it is any coincidence that the term "ghosting" became popular right around the time of the rise in social media. Folks are anonymous.
The areas of concern you mention - emotional immaturity, lower personal resilience, and damaged self esteem - I believe are even more of a concern for the one doing the ghosting.
Being accountable for your actions, having the hard conversations are what develop maturity, personal resilience and self esteem. The ghoster too has to spend so much time and energy avoiding you, making excuses, and even changing their daily routine just to avoid the confrontation. Sad really.
